Presently, the Managing Director of award winning and prestigious Peninsula New York on Fifth Avenue, Samir Ibrahim brings a wealth of expertise in global luxury travel.

With 15 years of experience,  Mr. Ibrahim has had a remarkable career, first as a Front Office Supervisor. His caring approach to colleagues and strong engagement with guests were well-recognized with further promotions to Director of Front Office in 2014 and Director of Rooms in 2016. During his tenure, he provided interim support to sister properties in Chicago and Paris, assisting in the improvements of Operations and dedicating his time to the zenith of hospitality.  Mr. Ibrahim’s rise to Hotel Manager in May 2021 is marked by his steadfast and empathetic leadership skills along with his profound understanding of elevating luxury hospitality standards and anticipating the comfort of guests and colleagues alike.  His final milestone in February of this year saw him appointed as Managing Director of The Peninsula New York overseeing the recent and comprehensive multi-million dollar interior design refurbishment of the Hotel’s guestrooms, suites, lobby and roof-top bar. 

At The Peninsula New York, Mr. Brahim looks after the Hotel’s 219 rooms and suites, restaurant and 3 bars and the award winning SPA. 

A hospitality veteran and expert with more than two decades of experience in the industry, Complex General Manager Simon Chapman joined Sonesta International Hotels in their infancy as the company expanded the portfolio over the last few years.

Simon relocated to New York City after completing a multi-million-dollar renovation and repositioning of The Yorkville Royal Sonesta, Canada a luxury hotel featuring two Food & Beverage outlets and 9,000 square feet of flexible meeting space.

Chapman’s current role for Sonesta is Complex General Manager overseeing two of Sonesta’s acquisitions in New York City - The Benjamin Royal Sonesta and The Fifty Sonesta Hotel. Over the past year, Simon has led the $25 million-dollar full renovation and repositioning of The Benjamin Royal Sonesta Hotel in Midtown and is responsible for all aspects of the hotel including Operations, Sales & Marketing, Revenue Management, HR, and Accounting.

He started his hospitality journey with IHG in London at the Crowne Plaza London Heathrow and has operated in some of the busiest luxury properties with the IHG portfolio including InterContinental Times Square, InterContinental Barclay, The Willard InterContinental, InterContinental Chicago Magnificent Mile, and the InterContinental Mark Hopkins in San Francisco.

Simon a native of Cape Town, South Africa is no stranger to hospitality as both of his parents worked in the industry. His mom was a pastry chef and his dad a hotel GM in South Africa, Zambia, Mozambique, and Tanzania. Chapman attended London’s Thames Valley University for Hospitality Management.

With a background in Operations and Finance, Chapman likes to get involved and “drill down into potential opportunities to ensure we understand and adjust our processes when necessary. Chapman is collaborative in his approach, guiding his team to determine the best solutions.

Though a GM’s success is measured by a series of metrics, Chapman says guest and employee feedback is pivotal. “I am constantly working towards making our guest’s stay as memorable and seamless as possible. Employee engagement is crucial, and I ensure employee feedback is listened to and addressed.”

Simon resides in Westchester, New York with his wife Mariann and his two children. He is an avid skier, enjoys a good game of Rugby, is a frequent traveler exploring the world and loves the excitement and vibrancy of New York City.

Sofia L. Vandaele, Belgian native and 25-year hospitality veteran, returned to New York in 2018 to join IHG Hotels & Resorts® as General Manager of the 704-room InterContinental New York Barclay. Today, she helms the luxury brand’s strategic direction as Regional Director of Operations, Luxury & Lifestyle, NYC. Prior to moving back to New York, Vandaele resided in Paris, where she managed the four-star Hilton Paris Opera leading the property through a multimillion-dollar renovation, including reposition. Her previous New York experience includes time as the General Manager at several W hotels, including W New York - Downtown. Vandaele’s professional passion lies in her employees, delivering memorable guest experiences and raising the bar on luxury. Personally, her time is best spent with her pup and confidant, Bowie, who has become a synonymous resident of The Barclay.
